Our representative in South Africa

The Trust’s representative in South Africa is Helen Smith. Helen was previously an experienced Education Social Worker in Derbyshire and now lives in Pretoria. Helen works hard to represent the Trust on the ground in South Africa and much of what we do is dependent upon her work locally. She works closely with the schools supported by the Trust, maintaining regular contact with the Headteachers and staff and seeing at first hand the impact of the Trust’s funding. Helen reports regularly to the Trustees and is consulted by them on a regular basis so that they are always up to date with news and information from Mamelodi. She is currently closely involved with the new library project at Meetse A Bophelo School and is working on a regular basis with the staff there as they develop the library. She liaises closely with the local Rotary Cub and with senior staff at Pretoria University. Many international visitors are keen to see the work of the Trust in Mamelodi and Helen regularly organises visits to schools.
