Our representative in South Africa

The Trust's voluntary representative in South Africa is Helen Smith. Helen was previously an experienced Education Social Worker in Derbyshire and now lives in Pretoria. Helen works hard to represent the Trust on the ground in South Africa and much of what we do is dependent upon her work locally. She works closely with the schools supported by the Trust, maintaining regular contact with the Headteachers and staff and seeing at first hand the impact of the Trust’s funding. Helen reports regularly to the Trustees and is consulted by them on a regular basis so that they are always up to date with news and information from Mamelodi. She is always closely involved with the Trust’s current projects and works on a regular basis with the staff of the schools as they develop their activities. She liaises closely with senior staff at Pretoria University and other agencies and organisations who work in the schools we support. Many international visitors are keen to see the work of the Trust in Mamelodi and Helen regularly organises visits to schools.
